HRH Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands
Princess Laurentien is social entrepreneur, author, strategist and dialogue facilitator. Thematically, she focuses on education, literacy, sustainability and child participation. She is the author of the Mr Finney children’s book series (translated into 9 languages), several fairy tale books and a leadership book through the voice of children. She was elected Dutch Philantropist of the Year in 2017 for her successes in ‘systemic change’ in various fields and in 2010 she received the Dutch Salvation Army Prize for her work on illiteracy and social justice.
She is UNESCO Special Envoy on Literacy for Development and founder of the Dutch Reading and
Writing Foundation (2004). She also holds a range of honorary positions in culture and language-related organisations, including President of the European Cultural Foundation. She is founder of the Missing Chapter Foundation, an NGO that facilitates inter-generational dialogue between children and decision-makers in the public and private sectors. She is President of Fauna and Flora International (FFI), Member of the Board of Trustees of the Oceana Azul Foundation, Special Advisor to Rewilding Europe and Fellow at the European Climate Foundation.
She holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Berkeley and a Bachelor’s degree in
political science from the University of London. She and her husband HRH Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands have three children.
